The Haven and COVID-19
We need your help finding housing for our most vulnerable community members. If you are, or know, a landlord with current vacancies, please read and share our press release here.
We are operating within normal shelter hours for unhoused guests, only. Housed guests can still access mail and food service, but cannot remain inside the day shelter.
In addition to daily breakfast, we are now serving lunch from 12-1 pm, Monday through Thursday, supported by local soup kitchen groups and the Charlottesville Food Justice Network (City Schoolyard Garden, Local Food Hub). The Salvation Army will be hosting lunch Friday through Saturday.
Need assistance regarding housing, finances, or food access? Please call the Community Resource Line at 434-326-0950, Monday-Friday from 9 am–6 pm.
Giving a financial donation will allow us the flexibility to purchase needed items as we meet Covid-19 related challenges.
We are limiting the amount of material donations coming in to the shelter at this time. If you would like to purchase needed items to donate, consider having the below items sent straight to the shelter, or dropped off at our side entrance (red door on 1st Street between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.):
- Body wipes
- Disposable razors
- Gently used sleeping bags and tents
- Hot cups
- Individual and large bottles of hand sanitizer
- Men’s undershirts and underwear (sizes L-3XL)
- Paper plates
- Reading glasses
- To-go food containers
- Travel-sized toothpastes, shampoo, body lotion, deodorant, shaving cream, soap
- Water bottles (by the case)
